 1. Electricity (Do this first)

What to do:

  • Contact the local electric provider

  • Ask if service is:

    • Active → transfer account to your name

    • Inactive → request activation

You’ll usually need:

  • ID

  • Lease or proof of ownership

  • Move-in date

Timing:

  • 1–5 days depending on provider

👉 Tip: Turn on lights and test outlets before moving furniture in

💧 2. Water Service

What to do:

  • Call the water utility company

  • Confirm if water is active or needs reconnection

Timing:

  • Same day to 2 days in most areas

👉 Tip: Run all faucets and check for leaks right away

🌐 3. Internet & Cable

What to do:

  • Schedule installation 1–2 weeks in advance

  • Confirm service availability at your address

What to prepare:

  • ID

  • Address verification

  • Preferred installation date

Timing:

  • 2 days to 2+ weeks

👉 Tip: Book early, installation slots fill fast

🔥 4. Gas / Cooking Fuel

What to do:

  • Set up delivery or purchase tank

  • Install regulator and hose

👉 Tip: Test for leaks using soap solution before use

🗑️ 5. Trash & Local Services

What to do:

  • Ask landlord or local office:

    • Pickup schedule

    • Recycling rules

👉 Tip: Some areas require specific bins or sorting

📋 Final Pre-Move Checklist

✔ Electricity working

✔ Water running

✔ Internet scheduled or installed

✔ Gas ready

✔ Trash schedule confirmed

🧠 Smart Move (Most people skip this)

Set everything 1–3 days before move-in, not on the same day.

That buffer gives you time to fix:

  • No power

  • Slow internet install

  • Leaks or issues
